Hygiene and sanitation

The fishing port in the coastal region of Cameroon especially in the coastal areas of Limbe in the south west region is inhabited by less informed people who consider no environmental impacts in their communities such as hygiene and sanitation but only concentrate on their fishing on a very traditional manner to raise income while living in sandy shakes and ghettos with the complete absence of toilet facilities, using nearby bushes and streams as their toilets.

IYEC Cameroon in its  performance-based financing health care project, has improved hygiene and sanitation in some health facilities and hospitals in Limbe I, II, and III  council areas, and in the west coast of Limbe (Idenau), south west region of Cameroon.

Tree planting.

In an attempt to maintain a stable source of supply of water in the town of  Limbe in the south west region of Cameroon, IYEC Cameroon has embarked on a tree planting scheme at the source in mile two, Limbe. Due to the fact that with the increase level of urbanization and farming in this area there is the high risk of losing this source of water and consequently shortage of supply since the source is highly exposed to sunlight and void of trees to retain moisture.

Also as a result of climate change and high level of urbanization IYEC Cameroon has carried out tree planting in the town of Mamfe, along the major high way in the south west region of Cameroon, and also mobilized and educated the people to protect our natural resources as well as engage in sustainable development projects that are going to improve on their livelihood.

Protection of the ecosystem

With the agricultural activities put in  place  by IYEC Cameroon to fight against illegal poaching and logging, we have also mobilized, and sensitized people on the consequences of bush fires, disposal of toxic waste and other environmental hazard that will help to destroy the ecosystem. All these moves have greatly enhanced the protection of our ecosystem in the areas of Mamfe and Limbe respectively.
